Simon Ehammer gets off to a good start in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn. In the shot put, which is not one of his favorite disciplines, he scores more points than budgeted with 15.15 m.

In addition to his exploit with the shot put, he had already achieved a great distance of 8.20 m in his specialty, the long jump. These two performances more than compensated for his mediocre 6.81 seconds over 60 m.

The indoor world champion Ehammer got off to the better start in his duel against the Norwegian Sander Skotheim. But after three events, there is still a close duel for gold. The Norwegian raised the European record to 6484 points in January and almost caught Ehammer a year ago in Glasgow in the battle for the World Indoor Championship gold in the 1000 m race. Ehammer, whose Swiss record stands at 6418 points, wants to kill two birds with one stone in the Netherlands: gold and the European record.
