Simon Ehammer wins the indoor heptathlon in Aubière, France, for the fourth time in a row with 6205 points. The indoor world champion thus confirmed the limit for the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn.
Ehammer made a solid start to the season. The 24-year-old from Appenzell was particularly strong in the 60 m hurdles, where he set a Swiss season's best time of 7.63 seconds (previously 7.64 by Jason Joseph 24 hours earlier in Magglingen) and equaled the limit for the European Indoor Championships. He also scored more than 1000 points in the long jump with 7.82 m, although he clearly has more jumps in his legs in this discipline. In the final 1000 m race, he saved a lead of six points over the Frenchman Luc Brewin.
Simon Ehammer plans to compete in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships, while he will compete exclusively in the long jump at the World Indoor Championships two weeks later in Nanjing, China. He is the Swiss record holder in both disciplines.
