Disappointment for Switzerland in the first short track race of the World Championships in Andorra. Sina Frei finished 12th in the women's race, Alessandra Keller had to retire.

The Swiss women were never able to get into the fight for the medals. In the sprint on the short finishing straight, Great Britain's Evie Richards came out on top by a wafer-thin margin against Olympic champion and defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. Sweden's Jenny Rissveds took bronze.

After her 12th place, Sina Frei told SRF that it was a "very fast race from the very first minute". It was difficult to get into a flow in just 20 minutes. She was neither "mega happy" nor "mega disappointed", explained the 2021 world champion, when the discipline was held as part of the World Championships for the first time.

Alessandra Keller crashed, but according to initial findings remained uninjured.

There were also no Swiss medals in the juniors and U23 categories. The closest to the podium was U23 rider Dario Lillo, who missed out on bronze in fourth place by three seconds.
