Snowboard crosser Sina Siegenthaler is in pole position for Friday's knockout heats at the Freestyle World Championships in the Engadine.
The 24-year-old from Bern set the fastest time in qualifying. Noémie Wiedmer also qualified directly on Thursday in ninth place, while Aline Albrecht also got stuck on her second attempt.
The men's knockout heats will take place entirely without Swiss participation. Like Albrecht, Valerio Jud was a good four tenths too slow, while Kalle Koblet had to declare a forfeit. The team leader did not recover in time from a torn syndesmosis ligament that he suffered in Erzurum at the beginning of the month.
The knockout heats are scheduled for Friday at 12.00 noon. The last time Olivia Nobs (silver) and Mellie Francon (bronze) won World Championship medals for Switzerland in snowboard cross was in 2009.
