The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 19 to 25. Six Swiss athletes will be taking part.
Noe Seifert, Florian Langenegger, Luca Giubellini and Marco Pfyl as well as Lena Bickel and Anny Wu are among the 501 participants and will represent Switzerland at the championships. The line-up differs from that of the European Championships. David Huser, head of the Olympic mission at the Swiss Gymnastics Federation, says: "Because this is an individual world championship, we have deliberately set the selection criteria high."
An individual world championship is special for the Swiss team. In the past, the gymnasts have often emphasized their excellent team spirit. This was underlined at the European Championships in Leipzig, when the men's team of Florian Langenegger, Matteo and Luca Giubellini, Noe Seifert and Ian Raubal secured the silver medal in the team final. A historic achievement that no Swiss team had ever managed before.
But that's just it: The World Championships in Jakarta are an individual World Championships. The objectives are correspondingly different. For the men, the goal is a top 12 finish in the all-around final and qualification for at least one apparatus final. The most promising candidate for achieving these goals is Noe Seifert. The 26-year-old is the most experienced member of the team.
At the European Championships 2025, Seifert was the best gymnast in the qualification for the all-around final. He only missed out on a medal there on the landing and ended up in 6th place. Before traveling to Jakarta, Seifert told CH Media that winning a medal would be difficult due to the strong competition. Luca Giubellini feels the same, but counts Seifert as one of the favorites.
The objective for the women is different. Only two athletes are traveling to Indonesia - with the aim of reaching the all-around final. At the European Championships in Leipzig, 22-year-old Anny Wu achieved this.
