Six starts, six gold medals - Klaebo has achieved something unprecedented at the Nordic World Championships. In the final competition he seemed to be in trouble a few times on the way to his historic triumph, but he stayed in the leading group - and in the final sprint he was back in his element. In a duel against the Swede William Poromaa, he clearly had the better end in front of an estimated 80,000 spectators at the new ski festival in Trondheim and thus secured his 15th World Championship title.

Five runners formed the leading group over the last five kilometers. Klaebo's compatriot Harald Amundsen then dropped back, three kilometers before the finish Martin Nyenget, another Norwegian, crashed and at the 49th kilometer Simen Krueger, who was the fourth athlete from the host nation to have hopes of victory, also had to abandon the race. Krueger still managed bronze.

The best-placed Swiss-Ski athlete was Jason Rüesch. The man from Graubünden finished a good seven and a half minutes behind in 18th place, while Candide Pralong from Valais was 38th in the final classification.

The third Swiss starter, Jonas Baumann, dropped out of the race after two thirds of the distance in his last appearance at a major event. The man from Graubünden was in poor health and only decided to take part after the run-in.
