The Swiss ski cross team has to accept a disappointment at the second World Cup race in Veysonnaz. The finals on Saturday will take place without Swiss participation.

With world and Olympic champion Ryan Regez and the previous day's third-placed Tobias Baur, a Swiss-Ski duo at least fought for 5th to 8th place. As is so often the case, the man from the Bernese Oberland shied away from taking risks when not competing for the big trophies. He avoided the duels and finished eighth, while Baur was once again the best Swiss in fifth. Top favorite Reece Howden from Canada returned to winning ways and celebrated his 22nd triumph in the World Cup.

The races in Veysonnaz brought clarity in terms of the Winter Games. Romain Détraz is likely to have secured his fourth ticket with Friday's semi-final qualification - after Regez, Alex Fiva and Baur.

Fanny Smith's start gate remained empty. The Vaud native is suffering from a blockage in her back. As on Friday, no Swiss athlete made it through to the semi-finals. Fanny Smith, Talina Gantenbein, Saskja Lack and Sixtine Cousin are likely to receive the four Olympic tickets.

Serial winner Sandra Näslund suffered her second defeat of the season. The Swede was unable to pull away on the starting straight. She also made a driving error, which dropped her back to 4th place. The winner was the German Daniela Maier.
