Slalom dominator Mikaela Shiffrin wins in Spindleruv Mlyn and secures the small crystal globe in her showpiece discipline ahead of time. Camille Rast finishes in a strong second place, Wendy Holdener comes fifth.
This is Shiffrin's ninth win in the Slalom World Cup, something no one has ever achieved before. The dominator is practically unbeatable in the poles this season: only Camille Rast managed to beat Shiffrin in Kranjska Gora at the start of the year. The American won the remaining races, further extending her lead in the overall World Cup.
Rast finished second on the slalom podium for the fifth time this season. In the second run, in which she was just one hundredth slower than Shiffrin, the skier from Valais made up two places. She can look forward to the Olympic Games in Cortina with great confidence.
Wendy Holdener can also celebrate her eighth top 8 ranking in her eighth slalom. However, the racer from Schwyz had finished second in the first run and was hoping for her second podium of the season. In the second run, however, she lost a lot of time in the middle section and dropped back to 5th place. Meanwhile, the German Emma Aicher celebrated her third 3rd place this slalom winter.
The other Swiss racers, Eliane Christen and Mélanie Meillard, finished in joint 16th place. While Christen had already fulfilled the Olympic selection criteria before the race in the Czech Giant Mountains, Meillard missed out on her second top 15 classification by 31 hundredths. Swiss-Ski will announce the Olympic line-up on Monday.
