Before the team competition, FIS President Johan Eliasch addressed the protagonists before declaring the World Championships open: "Dear athletes, you show us hope. You make us believe that anything is possible. In these times, we need hope more than ever before."

The main protagonists of the opening ceremony, Laurenz and Romi, two children from the Glemmtal valley, also have hope. Their dream of becoming world-class skiers formed the backdrop to the opening ceremony.

Saalbach is hosting the World Championships for the second time since 1991. Eleven sets of medals will be awarded in the Glemmtal from February 4 to 16.
