Sofia Goggia celebrates her 27th World Cup victory in the super-G in Val d'Isère. The Italian wins ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson and American Lindsey Vonn. The Swiss skiers are following the music, as they did on Saturday in the downhill.

Goggia, who had already finished third on the podium in the first super-G of the season in St. Moritz, put 15 hundredths between herself and Robinson. On Saturday in the downhill, the Italian had missed out on a possible victory with a mistake in the lower part of the course, but now she made amends for her 8th place the day before.

Angry Goggia, consistent Robinson and Vonn

"I was very disappointed with myself because of that mistake yesterday," Goggia told SRF after the race. "I tried to take this anger into the race today." The 33-year-old succeeded in doing so. She climbed to the top of the podium in the super-G for the eighth time.

Robinson, for her part, confirmed her strong form and built on her outstanding performance a week ago when she surprisingly won her first career super-G in the Engadin. With second place, the 24-year-old defended her lead in the discipline rankings. Consistency personified is Lindsey Vonn at the moment. The former champion lost 36 hundredths to Goggia and climbed onto the podium for the fourth time in the fifth speed race of the season.

Worst result for almost nine years

As on Saturday, the Swiss women were unable to make up for the absence of Lara Gut-Behrami, Michelle Gisin and Corinne Suter due to injury.

As in St. Moritz, Malorie Blanc was the best Swiss-Ski athlete. While she finished 6th in the Engadine, she came 20th in the French Alps. The last time the Swiss women finished lower in a World Cup Super-G was in January 2017 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, when Jasmine Flury was the best of her team in 26th place, while Jasmina Suter, Joana Hählen and Delia Durrer all finished in places 22 to 24. Flury also finished in the points in 27th place.

The speed skiers are now saying goodbye for the Christmas break and will only start again in the World Cup next year with the races in Zauchensee (January 10/11). For the technicians, a giant slalom and a slalom are on the program in Semmering on 27 and 28 December.
