Lara Gut-Behrami narrowly misses out on the podium in the first of two World Cup Super-Gs in La Thuile in the Aosta Valley. The skier from Ticino came 4th in the race won by Germany's Emma Aicher.
Lara Gut-Behrami was eight hundredths too slow on the shortened course in very difficult conditions to finish in the top three in another super-G. Emma Aicher was followed by the Italians Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone.
Lara Gut-Behrami lost some of her lead in the discipline rankings. Ahead of the last two super-Gs of the winter, the next of which is scheduled for Friday in La Thuile, the Swiss racer has 45 points more than Federica Brignone.
The next best Swiss skier on Thursday was Michelle Gisin. The racer from Obwalden equaled her best result in a World Cup Super-G this winter with 9th place. Corinne Suter had to settle for 14th place just ahead of Joana Hählen.
Emma Aicher took her second World Cup victory, her first in a super-G. The 21-year-old daughter of a German father and a Swedish mother celebrated her premiere almost two weeks ago in the second downhill in Kvitfjell in Norway. She is the first German winner in the super-G for more than five years, following Viktoria Rebensburg's success in Lake Louise in Canada.

Lara Gut-Behrami wants the small ball
Lara Gut-Behrami is in pole position for the small globe in the super-G. The Swiss racer leads by 55 points ahead of Federica Brignone. There are still three super-Gs to go. Although there are still 300 points up for grabs, the two of them will probably fight it out between themselves. Sofia Goggia in third place is already 159 points behind.
