Marco Odermatt is the first skier to win the World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden for the fifth time in a row. The man from Nidwalden triumphs by 49 hundredths ahead of Lucas Pinheiro Braathen and Léo Anguenot.

In heavy snowfall and difficult conditions, Loïc Meillard was the second-best Swiss racer in 6th place. Luca Aerni (10th) and Thomas Tumler (12th) also scored points.

Ingemar Stenmark had also won five times on the legendary Chuenisbärgli, but Odermatt is the first to triumph five times in a row. As almost always in his great career, he once again set various milestones - at the age of just 28.

The bite is back

With his 46th World Cup podium, Odermatt caught up with Michael von Grünigen and Vreni Schneider as the most successful Swiss giant slalom racers. And, of course, he regained the red start number as leader of the giant slalom rankings from Stefan Brennsteiner, who retired. In Alta Badia (6th), the Swiss had still talked a little about his lack of bite, but at his home World Cup in front of tens of thousands of spectators once again, this was no longer a problem.

Odermatt had laid the foundations for victory in the first run when he distanced all his competitors by almost half a second or more. He prevented the first victory of a Brazilian in a giant slalom by Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, who had won his previous one as a Norwegian.

Loïc Meillard, last year's runner-up in Adelboden, moved up four positions in the second run. Luca Aerni also gained another place in the reprise and confirmed his brilliant giant slalom form.
