The Swiss narrowly miss out on the podium in the World Cup slalom in Kranjska Gora. Loïc Meillard, who was leading after the first run, and Tanguy Nef finish fourth and fifth. Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen wins ahead of compatriot Timon Haugan.
The starting position had been promising from a Swiss perspective. Alongside Meillard, Nef was also in contention for victory. The man from Geneva was in third place after half of the race, but in the second run, which was held in spring-like temperatures, Meillard ultimately missed out on a podium place by one hundredth. Austrian Manuel Feller was faster than the world champion by this tiny margin. Nef was 13 hundredths short of a place in the top three for the first time in the World Cup.
Third best Swiss was Marc Rochat. Luca Aerni, who was last to qualify for the second run, made up twelve positions in the second run and moved up to 18th place. Immediately behind the Bernese racer in the rankings was Ramon Zenhäusern. Daniel Yule, who was only in 21st place after half a run, dropped out of the race after a single thread.
Kristoffersen made himself the man of the weekend after winning the giant slalom the day before. With his second victory in the slalom this World Cup winter after the one in Val d'Isère in mid-December, he increased his lead in the discipline rankings to 77 points over his closest rival, Frenchman Clément Noël. There are still two slaloms to go this season.
It is well known that Kristoffersen feels particularly at home in Kranjska Gora. He triumphed in the Slovenian resort for the sixth time, the second time in the slalom after his victory ten years ago. In total, he made it onto the podium in Kranjska Gora for the 15th time.
