Loïc Meillard closes the season with a 2nd place in the slalom in Hafjell. Norway secures the day's victory through Timon Haugan and the small crystal globe through Atle Lie McGrath.
Meillard once again lived up to his reputation as a specialist for spring races. After his 2nd place the day before in the giant slalom, he followed it up with another 2nd place in the Hafjell pole forest. Last year in the Norwegian ski resort near Lillehammer, there was no getting past the French-Swiss racer, who had won both the giant slalom and the slalom.
At the halfway point, everything looked set for another triumph for the Olympic champion. However, he lost his big lead over the unleashed Timon Haugan in the decision and ended up 0.44 seconds behind the Norwegian, who climbed to the top of the podium in the slalom for the sixth time. This was completed by Finland's Eduard Hallberg, who made up five places in the decision.
Tanguy Nef finished sixth, around six tenths off his first podium at World Cup level. Daniel Yule just managed to secure some points to finish 15th.
The small crystal globe for the discipline victory went to Atle Lie McGrath. The Norwegian did not make it past 8th place. However, as his closest rival Lucas Pinheiro Braathen had a mistake on the second run and he finished 77 points ahead of Clément Noël (5th), this classification was enough for the first crystal globe of his career.
