Marco Schwarz wins the giant slalom in Alta Badia ahead of Lucas Pinheiro Braathen and Stefan Brennsteiner. The Swiss miss out on the podium after the triple triumph in Val d'Isère.
Schwarz more or less confidently held on to his half-time lead on the legendary Gran Risa piste. In the end, he saved 18 hundredths on the Norwegian Pinheiro Braathen, competing for Brazil, who narrowly missed out on his second victory in Alta Badia after 2022.
It was Schwarz's seventh World Cup victory, his second in the giant slalom. After a strong start to the season and second place in Sölden and fourth place in Copper Mountain, this did not come out of the blue, but in view of the recent less than encouraging results in Beaver Creek (22nd place) and Val d'Isère (18th), it did come as a surprise. Schwarz's compatriot Stefan Brennsteiner completed the podium, missing out on his second win of the season by 22 hundredths.
The Swiss were unable to build on their performance from the last giant slalom in Val d'Isère, when they achieved a triple victory. Marco Odermatt missed out on the podium by six tenths in sixth place after a faulty first run and a race to catch up in the second run. An impressive series came to an end for the man from Nidwalden, who won the last four giant slaloms in Alta Badia: excluding retirements, the last time he missed the podium in the giant slalom was in March 2021, when he finished eleventh at the season finale in Lenzerheide.
With Loïc Meillard (10th), Luca Aerni (13th) and Thomas Tumler (15th), three other Swiss racers finished in the top 15.
