Marco Odermatt celebrates his third victory in the fourth World Cup race of the season. After the giant slalom in Sölden and the super-G in Copper Mountain, the man from Nidwalden also wins the downhill in Beaver Creek.

In the season's overture in the supreme discipline, Odermatt distanced the competition by three tenths and more in his 48th World Cup victory. Ryan Cochran-Siegle came closest to the best downhill skier of the past two years. Behind the American wonder bag, Norway's Adrian Sejersted completed the podium, already 0.69 seconds behind.

Odermatt makes up the difference on the steep slope

Odermatt made the difference on the course, which had been shortened by around ten seconds, in the technically demanding steep slope, where no one even came close to his time.

While Odermatt took his 91st podium place in the World Cup, Cochran-Siegle and Sejersted celebrated premieres. The American climbed onto a World Cup podium for the fourth time, but for the first time outside of Italy and, of course, for the first time in his home country. The Norwegian has stood on the podium twice so far, but never in the downhill.

Franjo von Allmen (4th), Stefan Rogentin (8th) and Alexis Monney (9th) rounded off another strong team result, as expected, although world champion Von Allmen in particular was not entirely satisfied. The 24-year-old from Bern was just 16 hundredths off the podium.

Hintermann with comeback

Niels Hintermann celebrated his comeback after recovering from cancer. The man from Zurich, who missed the entire last World Championship winter, took no risks, losing 1.79 seconds to Odermatt and finishing in 20th place directly ahead of last year's winner Justin Murisier, who was unable to repeat his hussar ride from 2024.

Aleksander Kilde put in an impressive performance. In his first downhill after the serious crash in Wengen in January 2024, the Norwegian finished in a good 11th place. Kilde had won on the legendary Birds of Prey slope in 2021 and 2022.

Heavy crash by Aznoh

The race was overshadowed by a heavy crash by Rok Aznoh. The 23-year-old Slovenian was felled by snow in the middle section. Race number 58 lost his helmet on impact and was left motionless. After a long interruption, the race was finally able to continue.

The downhill was originally scheduled for Friday, but was brought forward by one day due to the weather forecast. As the resort in the US state of Colorado had been experiencing unusually high temperatures in recent weeks and it was not possible to create a sufficiently thick base in the lowest part of the course, the race ended at the height of the Harrier jump for safety reasons.
