Paco Rassat celebrates his second World Cup victory at Chuenisbärgli. The 27-year-old Frenchman triumphs in the slalom in Adelboden ahead of the Norwegians Atle Lie McGrath and Henrik Kristoffersen. The best Swiss skier is Tanguy Nef in 8th place.
Rassat, who had already won in Gurgl this season and finished third on the podium in Madonna di Campiglio four days ago, moved up from 4th place to the top in the afternoon in perfect conditions with the fastest run time. He relegated McGrath and Kristoffersen to the next places by 18 and 20 hundredths respectively.
Rassat, who grew up in the Savoy region, is the first athlete to win two slaloms in the Olympic winter and has taken over the lead in the discipline rankings from Clément Noël. Half-time leader Kristoffersen was able to console himself with his 13th podium finish in the ski classic in the Bernese Oberland.
The Swiss were among the losers the day after Marco Odermatt's fifth consecutive giant slalom triumph in Adelboden. Tanguy Nef finished in eighth place together with Noël. Loïc Meillard, in fifth place after the first run with an intact chance of a podium finish, faltered in the second run after around 20 seconds.
Ramon Zenhäusern made a personal breakthrough. The man from Valais, who slipped out of the top 30 in the start list and is fighting to continue his career, finished 15th in the second of five January slaloms ahead of the Olympic Games. The second-best time in the second run and the first top 15 finish of the winter also fuel Zenhäusern's hopes of a fourth Olympic appearance in Bormio in February.
