Camille Rast secures 2nd place in the slalom in Courchevel. She was only beaten by Mikaela Shiffrin, the dominator of the discipline. Emma Aicher completes the podium in third place.
Camille Rast put in a strong performance in the night race in Courchevel and, in second place after the first run, put herself in a good position to secure her second podium finish of the season.
The 26-year-old made the most of this starting position. Only Mikaela Shiffrin, who led the intermediate classification after the first run, was once again in a league of her own. The US American won her fifth slalom in a row, this time by 1.55 seconds, which means she now has 105 World Cup victories. Emma Aicher, the 22-year-old German who triumphed in the downhill in St. Moritz at the weekend, completed the podium.
Rast would like more night races
"It was a good race. I did make a lot of mistakes in the upper part of the second run. But it was solid," said Rast on SRF about her podium finish. "I'm looking forward to doing more races," Rast continued. She also hopes that there will be more night races on the World Cup calendar in the future. "I'm not a morning person. I was able to sleep in today," she explained with a laugh. But the atmosphere was also completely different, one that she found "particularly cool".
This is Rast's second podium finish of the season, having already finished third in the slalom in Gurgl in November.
Wendy Holdener, who competed in her 130th World Cup slalom in Courchevel, also finished in the top 10; only five skiers have more. Although she crashed heavily at the finish after the first run, the skier from Schwyz showed a good second run and was the second-best Swiss skier in seventh place. With Anuk Brändli, who achieved her career-best result in 14th, Mélanie Meillard (17th) and Eliane Christen (19th), three other Swiss skiers finished in the top 20.
