Mikaela Shiffrin wins the slalom overture in Levi for the ninth time. The 30-year-old American distanced the competition in the north of Finland by 1.66 seconds and more.

It was Shiffrin's 102nd World Cup victory, the 65th in her showpiece discipline. The five-time overall World Cup winner was in a league of her own and set the fastest time in both runs.

The fact that the gap to the competition was not even greater was solely down to Lara Colturi. The Italian, who competes for Albania, showed an outstanding race on her 19th birthday and finished on the slalom podium for the second time. Emma Aicher even celebrated her premiere in the pole forest with 3rd place. The 22-year-old German all-rounder has previously stood on the podium twice in the downhill and once in the super-G. She already lost 2.59 seconds to the victorious Shiffrin.

Wendy Holdener was the best Swiss racer in 8th place. The 32-year-old from Schwyz lost another place in the decision. The World Championship silver medallist missed out on her fifth podium in Levi by just under half a second.

As expected, Camille Rast did not have an easy start to the slalom winter. After her crash in Sestriere, the Saalbach World Champion is still struggling with hip problems. In addition, the slope in Lapland with its flat start does not suit her at all. In the end, she finished in 15th place.

Mélanie Meillard also struggled with problems in her preparation. The skier from Valais, who finished in the top 10 in eight out of ten slaloms last winter, had to settle for 22nd place after an appealing first run (12th place) and a completely botched second run.

None of the remaining seven Swiss racers qualified for the second run.

  • 30th place after the first run: Dzenifera Germane

The Latvian opens the second run. Her gap to leader Mikaela Shiffrin after the first run: 3.08 seconds. Germane crosses the finish line with a time of 1:52.86 and will score World Cup points here.

  • 29th place after the first run: Rosa Pohjolainen

The only local heroine in this second run. The Finn loses 1.61 seconds to Germane, but still scores points.

  • 28th place after the first run: Emilia Mondinelli

The only Italian in this second run finishes in 2nd place.

  • 27th place after the 1st run: Zita Toth

With start number 60, Zita Toth has made a sensational start to the second run and the Hungarian is in 2nd place.

  • 26th place after the 1st run: Cornelia Öhlund

We have a new leader: Cornelia Öhlund from Sweden takes 11 hundredths of a second from Germane.

  • 25th place after the 1st run: Estelle Alphand

The next Swede: Alphand is skiing very well, but then gets caught up and drops out.

  • 24th place after the 1st run: Katharina Gallhuber

The first of four Katharinas has made it to the finish. The Austrian finishes in 3rd place.

  • 23rd place after the 1st run: Hanna Aronsson Elfman

Sweden has a double lead! Elfmann misses out on the lead here, but is only 0.05 seconds behind her teammate Öhlund.

  • 22nd place after the 1st run: Ana Bucik

It's razor-thin at the top: Bucik loses 10 hundredths and is only in 3rd place.

  • 21st place after the 1st run: Katharina Truppe

We have a new leader! Katharina Truppe crosses the finish line with a lead of 0.17 seconds and is the leader for the time being.

  • 20th place after the 1st run: Sara Hector

And Truppe has to make room on the leader's throne again. Sara Hector is another 0.29 seconds faster than Truppe.

  • 19th place after the 1st run: Paula Moltzan

And the next best time. The American Paula Moltzan takes the lead by 0.63 seconds. That could go a long way to the front now.

  • 18th place after the first run: Camille Rast

No, that's nothing for Camille Rast today. The world champion, who has a hip injury, is not really getting into her skiing today and is also beaten in the second run. Intermediate 3rd place.

  • 17th place after the first run: Caitlin McFarlane

The Frenchwoman is still a little faster than Rast and takes over 3rd place.

  • 16th place after the 1st run: Asa Ando

The Japanese skier slows down on her second run and is almost two seconds behind.

  • 15th place after the 1st run: Bianca Westhoff

The Norwegian finishes four hundredths ahead of Rast in 4th place.

  • 14th place after the 1st run: Katharina Liensberger

Katharina in third place. The Austrian is the 2021 World Champion, but today it is only enough for intermediate 2nd place. Moltzan's time remains untouchable for the time being.

  • 13th place after the 1st run: Marion Chevrier

Good performance from the young Frenchwoman. 2nd place, that's good for World Cup points.

  • 12th place after the 1st run: Melanie Meillard

The second Swiss skier is also clearly beaten. 1.35 seconds and only 13th place, which is very disappointing.

  • 11th place after the 1st run: Anna Swenn Larsson

The Swede is tied for 3rd place with team-mate Sara Hector, but the question is: how much further forward can Paula Moltzan go?

  • 10th place after the first run: Lisa Hörhager

With start number 36, she caused a big surprise in the first run. In the second run she was a little more cautious, which was enough for 15th place, 1.42 seconds behind.

  • 9th place after the first run: Katharina Huber

And then the last Katharina is on her way. Katharina, who goes by the surname Huber, finishes in 9th place and loses almost a second.

  • 8th place after the 1st run: Wendy Holdener

A good run from Wendy Holdener, but unfortunately she can't match Moltzan's time. 0.32 seconds behind and 2nd place, but that was still very solid. How far forward will that take her?

  • 7th place after the 1st run: Emma Aicher

And then it does fall, Paula Moltzan's best time. Emma Aicher with a strong run and 0.15 seconds faster than the American.

  • 6th place after the 1st run: Neja Dvornik

The Slovenian is a few hundredths faster than Holdener. So it's clear: Switzerland remains without a podium place today.

  • 5th place after the 1st run: Mina Fürst Holtmann

The Norwegian gets caught up and is eliminated, there would have been a lot to gain.

  • 4th place after the 1st run: Zrinka Ljutic

The Croatian misses out on the lead and is also just slower than Paula Moltzan. Intermediate 3rd place for Ljutic.

  • 3rd place after the 1st run: Lena Dürr

It's incredibly exciting here in Levi! Dürr loses 0.15 seconds and is therefore exactly the same time as Moltzan in 2nd place, giving Emma Aicher her first podium place in the slalom.

  • 2nd place after the 1st run: Lara Colturi

The Italian, who races for Albania, puts in a fantastic performance on her 19th birthday. Colturi takes the clear lead here with almost a second advantage! Will that even be enough to catch Shiffrin?

  • 1st place after the first run: Mikaela Shiffrin

There is no discussion about who is the best slalom skier in this first race in Levi. Shiffrin wins with a lead of 1.66 seconds, it's absolute madness!
