The Alpine World Cup races in Crans-Montana from January 30 to February 1, 2026 will take place as planned. The planned festivities will not take place.
The organizing committee, Swiss-Ski and the FIS decided to significantly reduce the supporting programme as a result of the tragic events on New Year's Eve.
While the race program will remain unchanged with a women's downhill and a super-G on Friday and Saturday respectively and a men's downhill on Sunday, all side events in the center of Crans-Montana will be cancelled. The World Cup will be limited to the races and the spectator areas along the piste and around the finish stadium. A discreet supporting program with moments of remembrance is planned there.
The decision was made against the backdrop of the fire disaster on New Year's Eve that shook the region. Swiss-Ski and the FIS emphasized that the event should take place under dignified and appropriate circumstances. The focus is clearly on the sporting events.
"Since New Year's Eve, we have all been united in shock and grief; we will remember this tragedy for the rest of our lives," said Didier Défago, CEO of the organizing committee. "Swiss-Ski and the FIS share our conviction that sport can trigger many positive emotions and thoughts even under these circumstances. This reinforces our decision to hold the races."
