Katharina Truppe surprisingly wins the slalom in Are. The Austrian came out on top ahead of her compatriot Katharina Liensberger and American Mikaela Shiffrin. Wendy Holdener is the best Swiss racer in 5th place.

For once, Mikaela Shiffrin was unable to bring her half-time lead to the finish. As a result, the American missed out on her 101st victory at the highest level at the venue of her first World Cup win. Nevertheless, she set a new record four days before her 30th birthday. With her 3rd place and now 156 podium places, she also left Ingemar Stenmark behind in this respect.

Katharina Truppe surprisingly celebrated her first World Cup victory. The Austrian has stood on a slalom podium four times so far, always in third place. Now the big triumph followed in Are at the age of 29. Truppe moved up five positions with the third-best time in the second run. Katharina Truppe finished five hundredths behind her compatriot in 2nd place.

Meillard eliminated with best split time

Lena Dürr, who was still on course for the podium in second place at the halfway point, dropped back five places in the decision. Mélanie Meillard did not make it to the finish. On the way to her possible first podium classification in the slalom, the light-footed French-Swiss skier was eliminated. In fourth place after the first run, she was just five hundredths behind third place.

Wendy Holdener was therefore the best-placed Swiss skier. The racer from Schwyz showed a solid, but not outstanding race and finished in 5th place. She was 42 hundredths off the podium.

Ball race remains exciting

The small crystal globe will not be decided until the season finale in Sun Valley. Neither the leader Zrinka Ljutic nor her first pursuer Camille Rast were able to make a decisive lead. After two slow runs, the Croatian only finished in 10th place, directly ahead of the Valais skier, who has to make up a 41-point deficit in the last slalom of the season to crown her already sensational season with the World Championship title. Liensberger is also still in the running for the title. The Austrian has only ten points less than Rast.

The race had an unfortunate outcome for local Swede Sara Hector. Classified in 3rd place after the first run, she was disqualified for binding too high.
