The 2025 World Ski Championships start with the team competition in the parallel giant slalom. Thomas Tumler, Luca Aerni, Wendy Holdener and Delphine Darbellay ski to World Championship silver. Gold goes to Italy, bronze to Sweden.

The duels in the parallel race

Heat 1: Switzerland-Germany 2:2, Switzerland wins thanks to time
    Heat 2: USA-Norway 3:1
    Heat 3: Italy-France 3:1
Heat 4: Sweden-Austria 2:2, Sweden wins thanks to time
  • Semi-finals:
Heat 1: Switzerland-USA 2:2, Switzerland wins thanks to time
Heat 2: Italy-Sweden 2:2, Italy wins thanks to time
  • Race for 3rd place:
    USA-Sweden 1:3
  • Final:
    Switzerland-Italy

Switzerland was only beaten by the Italian team. Bronze went to Sweden, who defeated the defending champions from the USA 3:1 in the small final.

Thomas Tumler, of all people, lost the decisive duel against Alex Vinatzer in the final and had to concede the point to the Italians to equalize the score. Italy emerged as the winner due to the better overall score from the best individual times per gender. Luca Aerni and Delphine Darbellay had previously made up the deficit for Switzerland that Wendy Holdener had made up.

In the previous duels, it had been Switzerland who had progressed to the next round in the event of a tie thanks to the better time. In the semi-final, the Swiss quartet eliminated the USA. Tumler was the last rider to equalize the duel against the 2023 world champions.

Tumler had already saved his team from an early elimination against Germany in the quarter-finals. The 35-year-old withstood the pressure after trailing 1-2, winning his duel with Linus Strasser and clearly beating the required time.

The hosts Austria suffered their first setback. The prominent quartet of Stephanie Brunner, Julia Scheib, Stefan Brennsteiner and Dominik Raschner were eliminated at the first opportunity in the quarter-finals against Sweden. In the round of 16, Austria, as the second-placed country in the nation rankings, enjoyed a bye, as did Switzerland as the leader.
