Lenz Hächler misses out on overall victory in the European Cup. The man from Zug loses his lead in the last race.
Hächler entered the final slalom in Oppdal with a seven-point lead over the Norwegian Oscar Andreas Sandvik. After the first run, the man from central Switzerland was still ahead of the Norwegian, but dropped out in the second run. Sandvik, on the other hand, moved up from 8th to 2nd place behind the Austrian Simon Rüland and scored 80 points.
As overall winner, Sandvik, who was also named best slalom skier, would have a guaranteed starting place in all disciplines in the World Cup next winter.
Aline Danioth won the women's slalom at the same venue. She won for the sixth time in the European Cup, the first time after her last long forced break. After suffering a torn cruciate ligament in her right knee two years ago, her sixth serious injury, Aline Danioth returned to the race slopes last September.
In the discipline rankings, the racer from Uri finished in third place, just behind her cousin Eliane Christen, meaning that both women from Central Switzerland will be eligible to compete in the World Cup slaloms next winter.
