Vanessa Kasper and Lenz Hächler are eligible to compete in the World Cup giant slaloms next winter. Good results in the European Cup make this possible.
Vanessa Kasper took third place in the last European Cup giant slalom of the winter in Oppdal. Thanks to her top ranking in Norway, she moved up to second place in the discipline rankings behind Austria's Nina Astner and secured herself a permanent starting place for the coming World Cup season. This is a special success for the 28-year-old from Graubünden after losing her Swiss-Ski squad status last spring.
In the men's giant slalom at the same venue, Lenz Hächler impressed with second place behind the Norwegian Oscar Andreas Sandvik. The man from Zug missed out on victory by 16 hundredths. He successfully defended his lead in the discipline classification and, like Kasper, will be eligible to take part in the World Cup giant slaloms next winter.
Hächler is also the leader in the overall standings, seven points behind Sandvik. There is still one slalom to go on Sunday, also in Oppdal.
