Germany kept the game relatively open for just over a third. Then the Swiss pulled away from 1:0 to 7:1 in the middle period and made sure the situation was clear.

The Swiss impressed with a balanced team performance. The goals were scored by seven different players. Only Stefan Hutzli scored twice.

After two 4th places at the last two World Championships, Switzerland will arrive in Sweden with a rejuvenated team and a medal as their goal. In the second group game on Monday (4.00 pm), the favorites Czech Republic will be at stake. Two years ago, the Czechs won World Championship silver in Zurich, outclassing Switzerland 11:3 in the semi-final.
