Swiss biathlete Sebastian Stalder misses out on a top place in the cross-country ski run at the first Sprint World Cup of the season in Kontiolahti, Finland. The winter sports facts from Friday.
Sebastian Stalder made no mistakes in the shooting range, but lost well over a minute on the winner Emilien Jacquelin from France in the running time. That was enough for 28th place. On the final lap alone after the second shooting, the 26-year-old from the Zurich Oberland lost another 15 (!) positions. His team-mate Jeremy Finello finished ahead of Stalder in 25th place despite two penalties. The Geneva native was the ninth-fastest skier. The other Swiss athletes missed the top 40.

Cross-country skiing. - Norway's men set the tone in Lillehammer in the World Cup race over 10 km skating with individual start. Led by Martin Löwström Nyenget, they achieved a six-fold victory - with Johannes Hösflot Klaebo missing due to illness. Beda Klee had to make do with 36th place, 1:46 minutes behind, while Cyril Fähndrich lost two and a half minutes in the snowfall (60th). The two Swiss have disappointed in the skating races so far this season, but things are going better in the classic style.

Cross-country skiing. - The returning Therese Johaug has achieved her first victory of the season in Lillehammer. The 36-year-old triumphed for the 83rd time in the World Cup over 10 km skating with a single start. In addition to her top performance, the equipment was also perfect. Like both men, the women's podium was firmly in Norwegian hands. The Swiss women had to make do with 42nd place (Nadja Kälin) and 60th place (Désirée Steiner).
