Leader in the World Cup, fastest in qualifying at the home World Championships: Fanny Smith has a good laugh
Keystone
The Swiss ski crossers put themselves in position in qualifying at the Freestyle World Championships in the Engadine. Fanny Smith and Ryan Regez are the fastest.
Talina Gantenbein (11th), Saskja Lack (12th) in the women's event and Tobias Baur (6th), Alex Fiva (9th) and Romain Détraz (16th) in the men's event also made it through qualifying. Only Natalie Schär got stuck in 21st place and will therefore not be able to take part in the knockout heats on Friday.
Smith's prospects were already bright before qualifying. She has finished on the podium in eight of the last ten races. Thanks to her two most recent victories in Canada a week ago, she has taken the lead in the overall World Cup. Olympic champion Ryan Regez has also regained his form and, above all, his self-confidence in time for his home World Championships.
The men's round of 16 starts on Friday at 11.00 am. After that, it's blow by blow.
