Hauser dominated his home race south of Sydney, just as he had outshone the competition throughout the entire series. After a 1.5 km swim, 40 km on the bike and 10 km run, the 27-year-old distanced the competition by half a minute or more in a time of 1:42:41.

Max Studer put in another strong race. The winner of the race in China lost time on the swim, but then steadily made up ground on the bike and especially on the run. In the end, the man from Solothurn finished in 6th place, 1:06 minutes behind the winner, with Simon Westermann in 28th place, just over four minutes down on the winner.

In the world championship ranking, which takes into account the best three races and the season finale, Hauser clearly came out on top with four victories and the maximum points total of 4,250. He is the first world champion from Australia for 20 years. Brazil's Miguel Hidalgo secured the silver medal at the World Championships, with bronze going to Portugal's Vasco Vilaca. Studer was the best Swiss athlete in 8th place overall, although only three of his races were included in the rankings.

The women's race took place without Swiss participation. The German Lisa Tertsch also secured the World Championship title with her victory. She moved up from 4th place to the top of the overall standings in the last race of the series.
