Head coach Ian Wright is leaving Swiss Rowing at his own request to take on a new professional challenge.
After working for the Swiss Rowing Federation in the same role from 2014 to 2016, the 62-year-old New Zealander returned in December 2021 for the shortened Olympic cycle.
With his meticulous way of working, he led the team to great success. At the 2016 Olympic Games, the lightweight four with Lucas Tramèr, Simon Schürch, Simon Niepmann and Mario Gyr won the gold medal; this year in Paris, Andrin Gulich and Roman Röösli rowed to Olympic bronze in the double sculls. With six boats, the Swiss delegation in the French capital was larger than ever before in the last 50 years. Gulich/Röösli also won the 2023 World Championship title.
