The Mauritian Kimberley Pienaar caused a big surprise in the women's race at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
The 29-year-old won the ninth edition by beating Dutch riders Puck Pieterse and Demi Vollering in a four-rider sprint.
The big favorite of the Belgian classic, world champion Lotte Kopecky, won the sprint of the chasers 24 seconds behind and finished fifth just ahead of a strong Marlen Reusser. Elise Chabbey was the second Swiss rider to cross the finish line in 15th place, 2:08 minutes down.
Team Movistar changed tactics during the race and opted for Marlen Reusser. The Bernese rider only lost touch with the leading quartet at the very end. However, the 33-year-old is satisfied with her performance. She is in good shape for the Vuelta in a week's time.
