The Swiss curlers lose the final game against Sweden at the European Championships in Lohja, Finland. The Scandinavians beat the team led by skip Yannick Schwaller 5:4 in the extra end.
Although the team with Schwaller, Pablo Lachat-Couchepin, Sven Michel and Benoît Schwarz-Van Berkel got off to a good start in the last game of the European Championships, they had to concede a point in the very first end.
From that moment on, the Swiss quartet was trailing, which they were only able to make up in the tenth end. With the first deuce of the entire match, they equalized the score at 4:4 and forced the Swedes into the extra end.
In this end, the right of the last stone proved to be a decisive advantage. Although the Swedes, who had played practically flawlessly until the end of the ninth end, suddenly started to make mistakes, they held their nerve at the decisive moment.
Skip Niklas Edin was thus able to celebrate his eighth European Championship title, while Switzerland's dream of their first European Championship gold since 2013 was shattered for the time being.
