The first inclusive cycling and para-cycling road world championships begin in Zurich the weekend after next. Swiss Cycling will be represented by 14 female and 26 male athletes.
During the nine days of racing on the shores of Lake Zurich, 66 medals will be awarded across all age categories, 53 of them in para-cycling, in which Switzerland will be sending three medal winners from the Paris Paralympics to the races: Franziska Matile-Dörig, Flurina Rigling and Celine van Till.
The Swiss delegation with Stefan Küng and Stefan Bissegger have the best chance of podium places in cycling in the time trial. This will take place on Sunday, September 22. A week later, Küng will also be part of the sextet that will contest the road race at the end of the home World Championships. The team will be led by the in-form Marc Hirschi, who can count on the support of local hero Mauro Schmid, veteran Silvan Dillier and World Championship debutants Johan Jacobs and Yannis Voisard.
In the absence of Marlen Reusser, Caroline Baur, Elise Chabbey, Elena Hartmann and Noemi Rüegg will represent the Swiss colors in the women's race. Hartmann will also compete in the time trial.
