The Swiss mountain bikers impress at the World Cup in Leogang. Mathias Flückiger and Fabio Püntener finish 2nd and 3rd on the podium in the cross-country in the Czech Ondrej Cink's victory premiere.
After a mediocre start to the season without a single top ten result in the first three races, it was the first podium finish of the year for the Bernese veteran Flückiger and the first ever in the World Cup for Püntener. This means that the 25-year-old from Uri has definitely arrived at the top of the world. At the season opener in Brazil, Püntener finished in the top 10 for the first time, and two weeks ago in Nove Mesto he improved his career-best result once again with 5th place.
In Leogang, Lars Forster and Filippo Colombo rounded off a strong Swiss team result with 5th and 6th place. Vital Albin (9th) was the fifth Swiss to finish in the top ten. Record world champion Nino Schurter just missed out on the top 10 in eleventh place.
Christopher Blevins from the USA, who has dominated the season so far, did not cope well with the muddy surface in Salzburgerland. The winner of all four short races and the last two cross-country races only finished 17th, missing out on the podium for the first time this year. Ondrej Cink had a happy day instead. The Czech celebrated his first World Cup victory at the age of 34.
