The Swiss and the other non-German bobsleigh racers are left with nothing but crumbs at the two-man World Cup in St. Moritz.
Against the technically mature sleds and the best start times of the Germans, the gap added up to over a second.
Michael Vogt/Andreas Haas, Timo Rohner/Mathieu Hersperger and Cédric Follador/Luca Rolli had to make do with 5th (1.02 seconds back), 7th (1.18) and 9th (1.44). The Swiss generally lacked the final speed at the start before boarding. The victory was shared ex-aequo by the pilots Francesco Friedrich and Johannes Lochner, Adam Ammour finished third, seven hundredths behind.
Amy Baserga impresses in the pursuit
Biathlon. - Amy Baserga made a fine advance close to the top ten in the pursuit in Oberhof. Starting from 20th position, the woman from Einsiedeln skied up to 11th place, with one penalty. Aita Gasparin (23rd) improved slightly, but Lena Häcki-Gross (42nd) and Elisa Gasparin (44th ) failed to finish the competition.
The Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot celebrated her seventh World Cup victory, the young Norwegian Maren Kirkeeide equaled her second place from the sprint and the Swede Elvira Öberg ran from position 37 to the podium.
Slump for Swiss alpine snowboard team
Snowboard. - At the home World Cup in Scuol, the Swiss team suffered a heavy defeat in the parallel giant slalom discipline. The quarter-finals were the end of the line for everyone.
Team leader Julie Zogg did not finish in the round of 16. Ladina Caviezel and Flurina Bätschi were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Tsubaki Miki and Michelle Dekker, the number 1 and 2 qualifiers. In the men's event, Gian Casanova and Dario Caviezel had to congratulate their opponents in the first knockout round. Italy's Maurizio Bormolini took his sixth World Cup victory and Poland's Aleksandra Krol-Walas her second.
