The 21-year-old Marina Kälin achieves the best result for Switzerland in the third stage of the Tour de Ski. She finished 17th in the 20 km skating race with individual start.
The woman from St. Moritz had already attracted attention last February. In Planica, she became U23 world champion over 20 km including mass start.
Marina Kälin lost around one and a half minutes to the winner Astrid Öyre Slind, who beat Therese Johaug by a few seconds. The two Norwegians, together with Finland's Kerttu Niskanen, made up time on the leader Jessie Diggins.
The American will start the 15 km classic pursuit on Wednesday with a lead of 22 seconds. Therese Johaug, who also has to be considered for the ascent to Alpe Cermis, still has a handicap of 41 seconds.
Nadine Fähnrich is the best Swiss skier in 26th place, four and a half minutes behind. Anja Weber (29th) and Marina Kälin (30th) are also in the top 30.
