The Swiss juniors lose their second game at the U20 Ice Hockey World Championship in Minnesota against Sweden 2:4.

The Swiss paid a high price in the end for a miserable start to the final period. Just 57 seconds into the second period, Viggo Björck equalized for the Swedes, and another six minutes later Lucas Pettersson put the Scandinavians ahead for the second time.

The team of future Swiss senior national team coach Jan Cadieux had already overslept at the start of the game. They were already behind after 53 seconds, but Beni Waidacher (15) and Lars Steiner (39) turned the tide - albeit only temporarily.

The Swiss had already lost their first game against the USA on Sunday night by the narrow margin of 1-2. This means they have not beaten a "big one" at U20 level since 2019. In the remaining two preliminary round games, however, they will now face Germany on Tuesday and Slovakia on New Year's Eve. One of these two teams must be beaten to reach the quarter-finals.
