The Swiss ice hockey players in the NHL experienced a game day to forget on Monday evening local time. Despite the defeat, some can be happy about scoring points.
The New Jersey Devils with Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler lost 3:5 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The game started well from a Swiss perspective, with a goal from Nico Hischier, who put the Devils 1:0 up early on. After a second early goal by the Devils, however, the team was unable to score for a long time. The Jackets made it 4-2 before Timo Meier reduced the deficit again with Hischier as one of the assists. But the Devils were no longer able to avert defeat, instead the Blue Jackets scored a fifth and final goal.
Nino Niederreiter also conceded five goals with the Winnipeg Jets. The 33-year-old's team only scored once against the Buffalo Sabres, ending the game with a clear 5-1 defeat.
