The Swiss women's national ice hockey team ends the group phase at the World Championships in the Czech Republic with a 5-0 defeat against the USA. They will play the hosts in the quarter-finals.
At the end of the group phase, national coach Colin Muller's team, who had no points, managed to keep the score level for eleven minutes in the final game against the USA. Then goalkeeper Andrea Brändli had to make three saves in the space of four minutes. It was the deciding factor in a one-sided game in which the scoreline was 53:6 in favor of the favorites.
Despite four defeats from four games and a goal difference of 1:14, the World Cup is not yet over for Switzerland - all the teams in Group A were already confirmed as quarter-finalists before the tournament. On Thursday, they will face the Czech Republic for a place in the semi-finals. They will need to improve on their performance at the start of the World Cup. Back then, the Swiss lost 0:3.
