The Swiss women's national team also had no chance in their second match against Germany in the European Championship qualifiers. After the 3-0 defeat, the European Championship is now a distant prospect.
The Swiss team improved from set to set in Wiesbaden. In the end, however, they were again unable to win a set against the group favorites Germany, losing 10:25, 17:25, 17:25. It was the second heavy defeat for the team of national coach Lauren Bertolacci after the victorious start in Finland.
In the final group game against Finland in Schönenwerd on Sunday, a 3:0 or 3:1 win is needed to keep their chances of successfully qualifying for the European Championship alive. At the same time, the results in the other places must be right for Switzerland to secure a ticket to the 2026 European Championship in Azerbaijan, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Turkey as one of the five best runners-up in the group.
