Swiss Athletics has called up 31 athletes for the World Championships in Athletics, which will take place from September 13 to 21 at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
With 22 women and 9 men, the Swiss team is slightly smaller than in Budapest in 2023, when 37 participants (including four relay teams) took part, writes Swiss Athletics in a press release.
The 800 m and the women's pole vault are the only disciplines in which Switzerland is sending three female athletes to compete. After Audrey Werro secured a wild card for the World Championships as Diamond League winner on Thursday, there would even have been the possibility of fielding a fourth Swiss 800 m runner. However, Valentina Rosamilia and Rachel Klopfenstein, who were considered for this fourth place, have both decided not to take part in the World Championships for health reasons.
The final phase of the World Championships preparation for most of the athletes will take place at the precamp in Tsukuba, where the Swiss team already prepared for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
