The format of the competition with mixed teams stipulates that the winners of the six groups plus the best runner-up in each of the three groups in Sydney and Perth reach the quarter-finals.
The Swiss team with Dominic Stricker and Belinda Bencic played their matches against France (2:1) and Italy (0:3) in Sydney. At the same venue, at least the runners-up in the group with Great Britain, Argentina and Australia will be in a better position than Switzerland in terms of their performance in the individual matches at the end of the preliminary round.
