Tanja Hüberli will not be taking part in the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide in mid-November. After undergoing an ankle operation in mid-August, she will not be fit in time.
This was announced by Swiss Volley. "It was very difficult for me to make this decision. But at the moment I'm not where I need to be for the World Championships in terms of performance. My foot doesn't allow certain movements in the sand yet, and the risk of re-injury would be too high," the bronze medal winner at the Olympic Games in Paris was quoted as saying in the press release.
Hüberli's partner Leona Kernen will be competing in Down Under together with her former partner Annique Niederhauser. The interim duo qualified for the World Championships in terms of points. For the two silver medallists from the 2023 U21 World Championships, it will be the first World Championships participation of their careers.
From November 14 to 23, 48 teams per gender will be competing for the medals in Adelaide. Switzerland has five teams: Yves Haussener/Julian Friedli, Adrian Heidrich/Jonathan Jordan and Marco Krattiger/Leo Dillier in the men's event and Anouk Vergé-Dépré/Zoé Vergé-Dépré and Annique Niederhauser/Leona Kernen in the women's event.
