Team New Zealand has claimed an important fifth victory on its way to successfully defending its America's Cup title.
After the seventh regatta off Barcelona, the Kiwis lead the best-of-13 series by 5:2 points. This also dispelled the doubts that had arisen on Wednesday after two defeats.
The New Zealanders, who had actually got off to the worse start, took advantage of a wind shift. Once ahead of the Brits, they were no longer in danger. The Kiwis had also found the better set-up for the seventh race in strongly shifting winds. At the finish the lead was over 1000 meters.
A second race will be sailed on Friday afternoon. If the New Zealanders win again, they will have their first "match point" on Saturday.
