Verstappen, who had already won the test over the shortened distance on the Austrian circuit in the last two years, won for the tenth time in this format introduced in 2021.

The Dutchman retained a commanding lead after starting from pole position, whereas Norris, who started alongside him on the front row, once again did not get away very well. In contrast to last Sunday in Catalonia, however, the Briton did not lose any positions (for the time being). His Australian team-mate Piastri lined up third.

As a result, Norris was able to stay in Verstappen's slipstream. The latter had to take the racing line several times. On lap 5, the McLaren driver even briefly took the lead, but the Dutchman immediately countered - and Norris dropped back into 3rd place behind Piastri.

Verstappen then slowly but surely pulled away from the competition. He crossed the finish line after just under 100 kilometers with a good four-second lead over Piastri, who in turn kept Norris at bay by a few tenths.

As always this season, the Sauber team drivers came away empty-handed. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu and Finn Valtteri Bottas finished 19th and 20th respectively at the very back of the field.
