Since Tuesday, all travelers to and from Zurich Airport can see it on a countdown clock. In 150 days, the Ice Hockey World Championships will begin in Switzerland.

Now the clock is ticking. On Tuesday, the countdown to the final spurt towards the home World Cup was rung in on the airport forecourt. "The anticipation is huge," assures Martin Baumann, CEO of the Swiss Ice Hockey Association. "And we are perfectly on schedule."

The World Championships begin on May 15 in Zurich and Fribourg with the first four games, on which evening Switzerland will face the USA in a rematch of the last final in Zurich-Altstetten. "The interest is huge," says Baumann happily. "The Swiss games are practically sold out, it's difficult to get tickets."

A total of 64 games are on the program, so there are still plenty of opportunities. The goals of the national association go beyond short-term success on the ice. "We want to attract as many little buttons, boys and girls, as possible to this great sport," says the CEO.
