Two days after the prestigious win against the champions ZSC Lions (3:2 n.p.), EV Zug went one better: The team from central Switzerland squeezed their way to a 4:3 win at home against Biel.
For a long time, it looked like a one-sided afternoon in the sold-out Zug Stadium: The home team had a comfortable 4:0 lead at half-time. Sven Senteler scored twice, Lino Martschini ended a seven-game goal drought, Tomas Tatar one in three games.
But instead of the highest win of the season, things got really tight for the EVZ once again. Biel started a brilliant comeback in the final third. After Marcus Sylvegard made it 4:1 (46'), Yanick Sablatnig reduced the deficit further just two minutes later. Zug were now too passive - and after Nolan Cattin (56) made it 4:3, Biel were finally within striking distance. In the final phase, the visitors pressed for the equalizer with six field players, but the EVZ saved the narrow lead with difficulty.
With its second win in a row, Zug consolidates its position at the top of the table, while Biel remains in 10th place. The team from the Seeland will play the leaders in Davos on Tuesday. Zug play at Fribourg-Gottéron.
