Gottéron is now Davos' first rival, Lugano is on the rise and the Lakers are still in a slump. These are the facts from Friday's six games.
Gerber lifts Gottéron to 2nd place
Following the defeat of leaders Davos at home to Ambri-Piotta on Thursday, Fribourg-Gottéron and Lausanne, the two teams chasing them, met in a direct duel on Friday. In view of the Grisons' comfortable lead, which has now shrunk from 14 to eleven points, they are unlikely to be rattled by this. Nevertheless, the Fribourg Dragons are now alone in second place. In an evenly-matched game, Jeremi Gerber became the celebrated hero in the 58th minute thanks to his goal to make it 2:1. It was the fourth line winger's first goal of the season.
Moser's first goal does nothing for SCB
The short run of SC Bern, who had recently won twice in a row in the league, seems to have come to an end. Heinz Ehlers' team lost 2:4 in Kloten and thus also had to admit defeat in their second season duel with the Zurich team. Mischa Ramel, Brandon Gignac and Keanu Derungs put Lauri Marjamäki's team 3:0 in front by half-time, with the Bernese getting themselves into trouble with careless disc losses or hesitant defensive behavior. However, Levin Moser restored hope of a point shortly afterwards for SCB, who were eliminated from the Champions Hockey League during the week. It was the 20-year-old winger's first goal in the National League. After Marco Lehmann's follow-up goal (47'), the Bernese looked even more consistently on the offensive, but were unable to reward themselves further. While Kloten visit Langnau on Saturday, SC Bern host leaders Davos at the same time.
Servette catches up with the Lakers
The Rapperswil-Jona Lakers are still looking for their form. The team from St.Gallen lost 2:5 at home to Genève-Servette and have now lost eight of their last nine games. Although Jacob Larsson put Johan Lundskog's team in front after just one minute, Matthew Verboon and Josh Jooris turned the game around for Geneva before the first buzzer, with Jooris even scoring a few seconds before the end of the first period while short-handed. Even Dominic Lammer's tenth goal of the season, which temporarily brought the Lakers within 2:3, only briefly kept hopes alive. Tim Bozon restored the two-goal gap just two minutes later (49'). Thanks to the win, Servette caught up with Rapperswil. Both now have a total of 42 points.
Ajoie outplay the champions
Bottom team Ajoie celebrates a surprising victory at champions ZSC. Willy Riedi and Derek Grant put Zurich 2-0 ahead in the first period, but Philip-Michael Devos and Kilian Mottet equalized before half-time. And it got even better for the Jura side: Jonathan Hazen scored the winning goal in the 57th minute, allowing Ajoie to close the gap on second-bottom Bern to eight points and take revenge for the first duel of the season with the Zurich team. Back then, the Lions had won 4-0 away from home.
Lugano beats Zug after Genoni injury
Lugano manages a reaction to Thursday's 4-0 home defeat against Fribourg. The Ticino side won 3-2 in Zug, with Marco Zanetti scoring the winner in the 55th minute for the efficient South Ticino side, who now move up to fourth place. The scene of the game, however, was a different one: In the 35th minute, Dario Simion curved behind the Zug goal and drove over EVZ goalie Leonardo Genoni. The former Zug striker was penalized with a rest exclusion and Genoni disappeared into the dressing room with an injury and did not return. His replacement Tim Wolf played a good game, but could not prevent Zug's second defeat in a row.
Hofer has the last word for Biel
It was a spectacle that EHC Biel and the SCL Tigers delivered. The Emmental side were in front four times in the Seeland and, after three defeats in the last four games, were once again heading for a sense of achievement. But nothing came of it for Thierry Paterlini's team. The final turning point in this rollercoaster game was reserved for Biel. Five minutes before the end, Jere Sallinen equalized the Tigers' lead once again, and as the final minute of the game dawned, it was Fabio Hofer, who had provided the equalizer, who finally allowed the EHCB to walk off the ice as winners with a 6:5 victory. The Biel team thus won their second duel of the season with their cantonal rivals.
