Thanks to Amy Baserga, the Swiss biathletes recorded a top 10 finish in their first individual competition of the Olympic season. The athlete from Schwyz finished 7th in the 15 km individual race.

Baserga missed a much better result with the very last shot. On her 20th attempt at the shooting range, she made her second mistake, which cost her her first World Cup victory in the final standings. If the penalty minute was deducted from the final time, she would have finished ahead of the Italian winner Dorothea Wierer, who was only 47 seconds faster than Baserga.

For others, however, the outcome of the race was even more brutal than for the best Swiss athlete. Finland's Sonja Leinamo missed out on her first World Cup victory by 0.3 seconds. In the finish area, the 23-year-old had to watch as Wierer overtook her with a strong final lap. Third place went to Camille Bened from France, who was competing in only her fourth World Cup race.

Lena Häcki-Gross was not at the start because she did not feel one hundred percent fit, as the Swiss head coach Sandra Flunger told SRF. Aita Gasparin, Lea Meier and Susanna Meinen did not make it into the top 30.
