The Swiss Men's Ice Hockey Cup will take place for the last time this season for the time being. As announced by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF), the competition will be discontinued from 2026.

Clubs from the National League have not participated in the Cup since 2021. The competition was relaunched under the name National Cup and has included Swiss League teams as participants alongside amateur clubs since 2023.

This season, the number of registered teams fell by 17 clubs. Only 47% of the teams eligible to participate, including just three teams from the third-tier MyHockey League and a few representatives from the 1st and 2nd leagues, are still registered.

A survey conducted by the SIHF revealed that the clubs are generally interested in the Cup, but regret the low spectator interest, the lack of sporting value and the resulting additional burden, among other things.

Also because the National Cup costs the SIHF CHF 130,000 a year, the association considers the continuation of the men's National Cup to be "no longer sensible". The women's National Cup will be retained.
