Fanny Smith finishes second on the podium for the third time in the fourth race of the season in San Candido. Alex Fiva and Tobias Baur are the first top 3 finishers for the Swiss men.
The skier from Vaud was somewhat surprisingly second behind France's Marielle Berger Sabbatel. Serial winner Sandra Näslund was beaten for the first time this season. She finished third.
The women's final was a spectacle in the shadow of the Three Peaks. Sandra Näslund didn't get off to the best start and found herself involved in duels, which obviously didn't sit well with her. Marielle Berger Sabbatel took advantage of the three-way battle between the German Daniela Maier, who was in the lead at one point, Fanny Smith and Sandra Näslund to finish a smiling fourth. With plenty of momentum, the Frenchwoman caught the racing line from behind and passed all three shortly before the finish.
Fiva and Baur on the podium for the first time
The Swiss men stood on the podium for the first time this season. Alex Fiva and Tobias Baur finished second and third behind the superior Reece Howden. The Canadian Howden had already won in Arosa on Tuesday and is now the record World Cup winner with 20 victories. Fiva stood on the podium for the 39th time in his career, Baur for the third time.
While the women put together a compact team and with Isabelle Zippert (5th), Saskja Lack (6th) and Talina Gantenbein (8th) three more racers made it into the top 8, there was a gap behind Fiva and Baur in the men's race. All the others were eliminated in the round of 16 at the latest, including Olympic and world champion Ryan Regez.
